The book is dedicated to the Ukrainian scientist in the field of electrical engineering, one of the organizers of postwar higher education in Lviv region - Mykola Hryhorovych Maksymovych, who was the rector of Lviv Polytechnic for ten years and eighteen - Lviv University. Ivan Franko. Mykola Maksymovych - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Ukrainian SSR, Member of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR of the 8th-10th convocations, member of the Ukrainian delegation at the UN General Assembly… The book attempts to look at his life from different angles. the story has branches - short digressions, bursts of memories about those who knew Nikolai Maksimovich, was involved in it. In the outline of the biography there are historical excursions, associative parallels, archival touches, and this creates a picture of what has already departed, but has left its mark, continued and developed anew.
The peculiarity of the book is that for the first time during the years of Independence of Ukraine an attempt was made to remove the propaganda from the figure of the wife of Mykola Maksymovych, a member of the CPSU Maria Kikh, whose name was well known in the Soviet Union.
The publication was made within the project on the history of Lviv Polytechnic. The book about Mykola Maksymovych is the fourth in a series of memoirs about the polytechnic rectors of the Soviet period and the beginnings of Independence: biographies of Yuri Rudavsky, Mykhailo Havryliuk, and Hryhoriy Denysenko were published earlier.
