Latvian President Egils Levits about the collection of articles: The relationship between language and power, language and ideology in Latvia has been little studied. We are still faced with the legacy left by the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century in people's thinking and language. Therefore, it is essential to find out how the Latvian nation and language were subjected and influenced in the interests of the occupying power - especially during the nearly half-century-long Soviet occupation, which was accompanied by mass migration and the goals of Russification of Latvia.
