In the framework of this study, for the first time in historiography, the contacts of the Eastern Patriarchates with the Kiev Metropolis were studied under the conditions of a policy of "intolerance" to Orthodoxy by the authorities of the Commonwealth. A new perspective has been revealed on the study of the problem of the existence of the Orthodox Church in the Commonwealth in the conditions of relations of "tolerance" and "intolerance." The analysis of the relations of "tolerance" and "intolerance" at different levels - at the state level and at the level of private possessions, as well as between different entities: the state and the Orthodox Church; Catholics, Uniates and Orthodox. Revealed forms of manifestation of "intolerance" to Orthodoxy in the Commonwealth and mass cases of protest of the Orthodox population. A comparative analysis of the political and legal situation of the Orthodox Church in the Ottoman Empire and the Commonwealth is carried out. The multilevel nature of the activities of the Eastern patriarchs aimed at restoring and strengthening the position of Orthodoxy in the Commonwealth is revealed. The directions and essence of the religious policy of the Eastern Patriarchates in relation to the Orthodox Kiev Metropolis in the new political, legal and ethno-confessional conditions are determined. The role of the Eastern patriarchs in the process of legalization of the Orthodox Church in the Commonwealth is revealed. The main religious and political results of the hierarchy of the Eastern Church in the Commonwealth are analyzed. Documents were introduced into scientific circulation, including the letters of the Kiev 4 Metropolitan Job Boretsky, the Orthodox Vilnius Brotherhood, etc., stored in the Main Archive of Ancient Acts in Warsaw (Archiwum Radziwiłłów).
