The book tells about the second person in Russia after Stalin in the 1930s. A half-literate shoemaker and the closest Stalin’s companion-in-arms, Lazar’ Koganovich, was in charge of all the appointments to higher posts in the party, state security service and political machinery of the state. He was one of the few people, who remained faithful to Stalin up to the end and did not participate in disclosure of Stalin’s personality cult.
