Three plus one. Three authors built a book in honor of the fourth: Kopac, Stancík, Mares - and Kafka. The first two added the words, the third the original, comic-book-style black-and-white drawings - and the fourth, whose death this year, on 3 June, is a hundred years old, used his life and work as inspiration. The book is formatted like an alphabet. Thirty-one letters, and each letter is an entry plus illustrations. It is written in the genre of info-tainment, the texts are based on specific dates, names, places and events connected with Kafka, but they follow two lines that have always been inherent in Kafka himself: not only analysis - but also comedy. It begins with "aeroplanes in Brescia" and ends in a guesthouse in Jellise, where Kafka treated his labored breath, but also met his second fatal love, Julia Wohryzkova, and last but not least wrote a "letter to his father". The book is an ideal introduction to Kafka's world, serving as a signpost and motivation. And then, of course, a reminder of one of the greatest geniuses of world literature, and not only of the last century.
