Otto Finsch (1839-1917) - German ethnologist, ornithologist, traveler and explorer, director of the Natural History and Ethnography Museum in Bremen. Alfred Edmund Brehm (1829-1884) - world famous naturalist, naturalist, author of the popular work "Life of Animals", the first director of the Hamburg Zoological Garden, the head of the first Berlin aquarium. In 1876, on behalf of the Bremen Geographical Society, the researchers went on an expedition to Western Siberia. Traveling across the Kazakh steppes, they stopped in Pavlodar, Semipalatinsk, Sergiopol (modern Ayagoz), Lepsinsk, Zaisansk, Zyryanovsk (modern Altai) and Ust-Kamenogorsk. Upon their return, Finsch and Brehm published their impressions and observations. In addition to describing the flora and fauna of the steppes, the authors also provide a detailed account of the Kazakh people's lifestyle, describing their appearance, homes, national clothing, and culinary preferences. This publication includes excerpts from the book "Journey to Western Siberia by Dr. O. Finsch and A. Brehm," as well as Brehm's book "Life in the North and South: From the North Pole to the Equator," concerning their journey across the Kazakh steppes. In addition, Brehm's article "Hunting in the Steppe," which was previously published in the German newspaper Die Gartenlaube in 1877, is published for the first time in Russian.
