The author researches literary-critical and artistic activity of the journal "Mayak" (1840-1845), traces the development of major ideas of "spiritual aesthetics" and theory of "Russian novel" that became the main reason of polemics between the journal and aesthetic views of V.G.Belinsky, N.A.Polevoy and on the whole the literature of the 30-40-s of the XIXth century. Particular attention is given to the interpretation of Lermontov's activity.
