The author presents the history of the Jews of Prussia in the context of its history: the Prussian tribes of the early centuries, the creation of the Teutonic Order, its conquest of Prussia and the creation of the Duchy... Once upon a time, the Prussian kings, in order to boost the economy, called Jews into their state as barely tolerable guest workers. Which, having fulfilled their function, had to leave the Prussian kingdom. But they remained.
The author talks about the situation of Jews under the Prussian kings Frederick I, Friedrich Wilhelm I, Frederick II and others, privileges and persecution, equality and pogroms, Zionists and anti-Semites in Prussia and much more.
When working on the book, the author used archival materials from Jewish communities in Germany, including collections of documents on the history of the Jewish community of Berlin, the archives of the city of Trier, transcripts of speeches in the Reichstag, the provincial Landtag of the Duchy of Nassau, the provincial Landtag of Prussia, collections of documents of King Frederick II, codes of laws Kingdom of Prussia, private correspondence of statesmen. Some of the documents are published for the first time, many of the documents are translated into Russian for the first time.
