This publication is the world's first encyclopedia of Jewish necropolis. It examines in detail almost all the subjects found in the decoration of tombstones-matzevs in Ukraine, their meaning, hidden meaning, and origin. The ancient necropolis of the town of Sataniv, in the Khmelnytskyi region, was taken as a basis. It served the local community from the second half of the 16th century to the middle of the 20th century, until this community, which was perhaps the most respected in Podillia, was destroyed by the bloody wave of the Holocaust.
This cemetery is rightfully considered one of the most interesting and artistically valuable Jewish cemeteries in Europe, and its section with tombstones from the 17th to the beginning of the 19th centuries.
