The monograph provides an overall characteristic of Izborsk - one of the nine old towns of Ancient Rus’ mentioned in chronicles. The main sources is the material of archaeological dig conducted under the author’s control from 1971 to 1993. In the result of the dig the site of the ancient settlement of Izborsk (Truvorov) was fully studied and rich material was received, which enabled to describe the history of the town from a different standpoint.
