Ivan the Terrible was the first officially proclaimed Russian tsar. He is the man, who has broaden the borders of Russia. He is the man who laid the corner stone of the state structure, made a true state from the messy mass of semi-independent feudal lots. He is the man, that effected the most serious reforms in many spheres of life – reforms, that again without exaggeration turned the old, out of date Rus into a real state. But more often than not he was depicted in the quality of loathsome executioner, that have been spilling blood right and left for no particular reason, for amusement, because of his inborn sadism, for the sake of love to executions and tortures. The figure of Ivan the Terrible is too majestic and difficult to be approached to with primitive judgments and abstract, slobbery longhair humanism, that has never lead to the good in our history…
