The articles in this book are an extended version of papers, presented on September 23rd and 24th 2011 under the Bulgarian-Italian symposium "Italy, Bulgaria and the Balkans (1870-1919)", hosted by the Institute for Balkan Studies Center Thracology (BSCT) at BAS. The symposium is a part of the bilateral scientific cooperation project "Bulgaria, Italy and the Balkans (1870-2010)", signed for a three-year period between BSCT and the University "Roma Tre", initiated by Alexandur Kostov and Francesco Guido, who are also its managers. In this book the readers will be able to learn unknown facts about the relations between the Bulgarians and the Italians from the time of the national revival of the two nations. They will discover a new reading of some of the Bulgaria’s past events, refracted through the prism of the foreign diplomat, lawyer, journalist or adventuring traveler.
