The poetry contained in this collection was published only in 1991, twenty years after the author's death, although some of it was published in 1968 in a small anthology. They come from a handwritten envelope found in Celan's office at the Higher Normal School, and were written between February and May 1966 at St. Paul's Psychiatric University Clinic Annie.
