The author of the book presents a review of historical conceptions belonging to such outstanding Ukrainian scientists and public figures as Mykhail Hrushevs'ky and V'iacheslav Lypyns'ky. Main attention is paid to the Khmel'nychchyna epoch, which turned to be a decisive for the Ukrainian nation. A parallel between cardinal changes in the middle of the XVIIth century and the Ukrainian revolution of the 1920s is also drawn.
