On the basis of materials from the Glasnost Defense Foundation the edition reveals contemporary situation of the press and journalists of Russia during the period from March 2002 till September 2003. On the example of a great variety of data the process of the development of conflicts between the press and authorities which can be classified as the attempts of censorship and the way how under the pressure of the power the press changes its freedom and independence to relative well-being are vividly shown. The chronicle collected by the Glasnost (Openness) Defense Foundation evidences that economic situation of Russian press depends to a considerable extent on its political orientation: the pro-governmental press has more chances to survive in comparison with the opposition press, even more so politically neutral.
