The book tells about the development of Irkutsk photography from the middle of the 19th century to the present day; about the work of masters of photography, who created in their works a unique image of the early Irkutsk province; about the revival of the city of Irkutsk, which largely died in the fire of 1879; about the events that took place in Siberia at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The publication uses photographs and documents from the rare collections of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk museums, the State Archives of the Irkutsk Region, the Scientific Library of the Irkutsk State University, the Irkutsk Regional State Universal Scientific Library. I. I. Molchanov-Sibirsky, private collections.
