The book identifies some of the typical relations to language, which form historical periods, styles, or "paradigms" of thinking in linguistics, philosophy, the art of writing from antiquity to the present day. The author shows that these "paradigms" are organized according to three dimensions of the language - semantics, syntactics, pragmatics, and that the language thus constitutes a "thought space", which develops ideas.
