Ballet dancer, teacher and choreographer. Honored Artist of the Armenian SSR (1961). People's Artist of the RSFSR (1973). In 1971-1987 he was the artistic director of the Moscow Academic Choreographic School, after which he returned to Yerevan. A special place in the work of this period was occupied by the ballet "Antuni" to the music of E. Oganesyan (1969), dedicated to the brilliant Komitas, whose image became a symbol of not only talent, but also the tragedy of the Armenian people who survived the Turkish massacre of 1915. Two years later, in 1971, Maxim Martirosyan stages the ballet "Gayane" at the Yerevan State Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. Spendiaryan and in the same year, at the invitation of the Voronezh Opera and Ballet Theater, he stages this performance in a new edition. The premiere of the Voronezh version of "Gayane" was attended by the author himself - Aram Ilyich Khachaturian, who highly appreciated this production. Later, the performance was awarded the USSR State Prize. The book "Dancing I Came into This World" was created by the daughters of the choreographer Ruzanna, Suzanna and Susanna Martirosyan. The book includes excerpts from the diaries of the father, his memories of contemporaries, as well as the memories of colleagues, students, all those who came into contact with his life and work, excerpts from articles and publications, archival materials of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography at the Bolshoi Theater.
