The monograph is a deep research study dedicated to the development of cadastre practice in Russia and forming of the public land accounting and management system. The history of land and forest cadastres is examined in detail. Methodic, organizational and legal aspects of land appraisal are touched upon in the monograph. The analysis of particular cadastre practices is combined with the general analysis of power and administration issues in Russia. Cadastre is considered to be a special form of geographic practice, a kind of practical activity, which is used to discover new geographic knowledge, broadening the view on the history of geography.
