The book examines the patterns of development of Udmurt literature from its origins to the period of formation of the main artistic features inherent in the national literature of the mid-20th century. Along with review chapters, sections are included on the work of individual, most significant writers (Grigory Vereshchagin, Kedr Mithrey, Kuzebay Gerd, Ashalchi Oka, Mikhail Petrov, etc.), and the development of translated literature is traced. The individual artistic practices of Udmurt writers, literary trends and genres are presented in a cultural and historical context. For the first time, in addition to the legacy of the classics of Udmurt literature, the work of lesser-known authors was also introduced into the general national literary process.
