The fifth volume will again take us through small and big history: new personalities and events, worries and joys, sometimes a little shame, sometimes almost eternal glory. From the earliest times to almost the present. And besides that, something else too... for example, potato mandeline (Colorado potato beetle). In addition to the fact that for decades it caused (and continues to cause) incalculable damage to the potato crop with its ability to develop immunity to pesticides or various biological preparations, in Czechoslovakia at the beginning of the 1950s it was described as an insidious "imperialist" weapon with the aim of starving our young socialist homeland. In the neighboring Czech Republic, it was called the "American beetle".
Today, the mandelinka (armband) is a symbol of the absolute absurdity of communist propaganda. Certainly not the most drastic or painful symbol. It got rid of its almost mythically bad reputation in the coming era of communism in Czechoslovakia only at the time of the great power's "warming up" as part of the bipolar policy of detente in the sixties of the last century. It was probably fateful or inevitable that this resistant creature eating potato wedges went through its communist hell here.
