The collective monograph is the first generalizing scientific study on the history of Sevastopol from the initial human settlement of the territory currently included in the administrative boundaries of the city to the reunification of Sevastopol and Crimea with Russia in March 2014. Particular attention is paid to the history of the foundation, formation and development of the city, the significance of its two heroic defenses for the history of the Fatherland and world history as a whole.
The first volume of the monograph is devoted to the ancient and medieval history of the Southwestern Crimea from ancient times to the fall of Ottoman rule on the peninsula, which predetermined the annexation of Crimea to Russia and the founding of Sevastopol.
