It is not by chance that the 1870s in Russian art are associated with spring, as, indeed, it was the time of appearance of new painting, formation of the Society of traveling Art Exhibitions, which determined the way of further art development for many years. Genre painting remained the leading trend. The so-called “small forms”, “novels in painting”, battle-scene pictures continued to develop successfully. For the first time Russian landscape painters turned to native nature.
