The study is devoted to the formation and development of the institution of presidency in independent Kazakhstan. The origins of the institution of presidency are examined, which emerged at the end of the Soviet period in the history of Kazakhstan in 1990, when crisis phenomena were growing in the economy, political, and social spheres, large-scale interethnic conflicts were unfolding in different parts of the USSR, and the leadership of the Union began to lose control over negative processes.
