The monograph is dedicated to the problem of historical tie of the modern Kalmyk language with the Oirat Mongolian group, with which it lost touch mare than 400 years ago when Kalmykia joined Russia and acquired independence from Dzungaria. The book studies phonetic, lexical and grammatical peculiarities of the two languages and the authors conclude that the Kalmyk language has very little changed its order and mostly preserves peculiarities of the Oirat language area of the Kalmyk language.
