In Bulgaria, the concept of historical memory has not been examined in a separate monograph before. Although this study looks at focus groups which are traditionally analyzed in historiography and ethnography, the historical memories about them and the present-day images of their past have never been subject to consistent comparative analysis. The book draws on previously unknown, little known or hard-to-access archival sources and materials as well as valuable information from oral history. It uses examples from Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Lithuania.
