Among the significant amount of literature on the Western Ukrainian People's Republic, this book is unique. After all, she combined scientific research into the history of the Galician Army and the author's personal experience gained during today's Russian-Ukrainian war in Donbass. Mikhail Galushchak draws numerous historical parallels in the war with Poland a century ago and the modern war with Russia. The basis of the work was a defended dissertation on "Military-political thought of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic / ZOUNR (November 1918 - July 1919)." The issues of development of the armed forces, distribution of powers of key public administration bodies and military command are analyzed. The most important military operations of the army of the Galician republic are considered - both those that have been implemented and those that are destined to remain in the plans. Alternative variants of the Polish-Ukrainian war of 1918-1919, the influence of internal and external factors on the evolution of the strategy of armed struggle are identified. For the first time in historiography, the author substantiated the expediency of using the term "Ukrainian Army" in the armed forces of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic.
