A new view of Ukrainian music is proposed through the semantics of the term "grassroots", inspired by the special influence of folklore on national art. The outlined definition eliminates stereotypical clichés of the devaluation of Ukrainian music and builds fundamentally new qualitative levels of assessment of artistic creativity. This expands the terminological compendium and gives an appropriate place to Ukrainian culture of the 19th century in the Western European context.
