Production enterprise "Granit" is the largest developer of non-metallic building materials in Europe. In addition, in recent years, the unique Belarusian quarry has become the scenery for several films with the light hand of film directors. The view of the quarry from a height is especially impressive: gigantic tiers, lines of railway tracks, working equipment below - all this turns the quarry into an open museum of modern engineering thought.
The granite deposits of the Mikashevichi deposit are reflected in the city's coat of arms and flag: their lower half is red and finished with symbolic rectangular teeth. For more than 40 years, the depth of the granite quarry, which looks like a gigantic amphitheater from a height, reached 135 meters, or two meters below sea level. Its area is also constantly increasing. Now its size is 1860 meters wide and 2985 meters long. Mikashevichi quarry is the largest deposit of natural stone in Belarus. Its area is more than 500 hectares, and its depth is more than 100 meters. This is one of the largest quarries in Eastern Europe, where granite, gabbro-diabase and other valuable rocks have been mined since 1973. Roads and buildings are built from Mikashevichi stone not only in Belarus, but also abroad.
Huge stepped walls go down, creating a sense of scale, comparable to an amphitheater, only technical. This is not only a mining center, but also a spectacular place where you can feel the power of modern industry. Despite its industrial nature, the quarry is successfully integrated into the surrounding landscape. Nearby – forests, villages, fields. The contrast between man-made geometry and the natural background creates a special atmosphere that appeals to photographers and travelers who are fascinated by industrial aesthetics.
