The book examines in detail the emergence, formation and development of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Russia and Zhemaitsky in the scale of the Eastern European historical context of the 10th – 16th centuries. The economic and social development of the Grand Duchy is revealed, starting from the consideration of the prerequisites for the emergence of this state and the processes within the principalities and tribal unions incorporated into it. The author traces the evolution of the main political and legal institutions of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the role of the unions of the XIV – XVI centuries with the Kingdom of Poland, the relationship of foreign and domestic policy with the events in the neighboring powers. Much attention is paid in the book to military history: a unique array of information about armed conflicts in which the soldiers of the Grand Duchy took part is given.
