The unique reading-book presents Ukrainian-Russian literary texts of the Middle Ages (the IXth-XVth centuries), given both in the original and in the modern Ukrainian languages. The first book is devoted to the literature of the Early Middle Ages (till 988) and High Middle Ages (988-1240). It contains such firstprimary sources as bylinas, Russian epics, songs of prince's armed force, chronicles by annalist Nestor, prayers, preaches of Reverend Feodosiy Pecherskiy, legends, letters, apocryphal works, narrations by other Reverends and other ancient texts.
