The monograph is devoted to the problems of urban development and the formation of urban policy in Russia from the perspective of geourbanism - a socio-geographical science that studies urban settlements, their territorial networks and systems. A holistic view is given of the stages of geographical study of cities and the formation of a scientific school of geographical urban studies. The history of the formation of a network of Russian cities and the features of their geography are revealed. Factors in the evolution of the spatial-hierarchical structure of regional networks of urban settlements and urban settlement systems, urban agglomerations and the supporting framework of settlement have been studied. The transformation of the urban structure of the Russian Federation as a result of industrialization and post-industrial transition is shown. The leading role of large cities as poles of development and centers of urban agglomerations of Russian regions is reflected.
