From the perspective of legal science, the formation and early evolution of the norms of Russian law that regulated wage labor relations in the period of the 18th - early 20th centuries are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, the era of accelerated development of factory legislation and the establishment of the foundations of modern labor law. The historical patterns of the origin of labor legislation, the reasons for the adoption of laws on hired labor are revealed, and the problematic aspects of the implementation of the norms of factory law are explored.
