Flipping through the pages of the cultural history of Odessa in the twentieth century, the author analyzes the frontal identity that has developed in this peculiar city. The first part analyzes the general processes that defined the cultural face of Odessa, the second presents portraits of prominent artists Vladimir Zhabotinsky, Petr Leshchenko, Mikhail Zhuk, Boris Necherda, Boris Khersonsky. Each of them embodied the image of the seaside city in its different identity and invariable charm. And if these figures are forgotten today, then we have a good opportunity to know and appreciate them more deeply, at the same time rethinking the phenomenon of Odessa in the twentieth century.
