The author professionally and reasonably covers the economic, religious and ethnic factors of the Ukrainian-Polish conflicts in the territory of the Dnieper, Volyn and East Galicia in the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth centuries. The sections covering the period 1918-45 are too important to understand the problem. To readers who are accustomed to texts that present Polish-Ukrainian conflicts in black and white, this intelligence will not seem easy and comforting reading. Reinforced by the generously attached archival materials and grounded in sound scientific intelligence, the author's conclusions are difficult to ignore.
