“This text is the basis from the lecture course led by me to students of Philosophy specialty at the Sofia University. Of course the text here represents just the schematic content of the course. The live atmosphere of communication with the students remains elusive. Stylistically, the text follows the recommendation by Etienne Gilleson to read the author we study with a pencil in hand. At the same time in some extend, it stylizes the discussed controversy, ignoring to some extend the church, ideological, political etc. context of the discussion. This is done with the only purpose to be shown up at maximum the own philosophical in the intellectual controversies during the last decades in Byzantium. The hope is that a similar “extract” will show how inappropriate and misleading is the frequently raised question “Is there such of thing as a Byzantine philosophy?” The recent studies affirmed the immanent philosophicality of the Byzantine culture. This book will add some more arguments in this direction.” – the author.
