This book throws light on the biography of V.Krivosh, which is an adventure novel itself. Austria-Hungarian by origin, Krivosh acquired Russian nationality when he was 23. In 1893 he worked in the censorship of foreign newspapers and magazines under St. Petersburg head post office, in so-called “black cabinet”, which carried out the opening and inspection of correspondence. According to different sources, he had good command of 24-26 languages. At the same time Krivosh worked as interpreter- cryptanalyst at the secret police department, ran the stenography in the council of state and State Duma and served in some other places. He was repeatedly arrested.
