This edition represents a new dictionary genre: it consistently reflects the state of the modern Russian language in its general usage, its rich phraseology and idioms, information of the origin of words and their correlations in other languages. Thus, this dictionary, built up on the widespread Russian vocabulary of the last three centuries, is explanatory-etymological.
