The period of 1919-1929 in the USA, which is called the period of prosperity, is one of the most contradictory ones in the history of the country. “The final victory over poverty” and the nation as a “consumer society”, the cult of profit and emancipation of morals and manners with references to Freud, immigration as a national threat and racial theories, advertisement as a social tyrant and tabloids as a means to make a certain public opinion, prohibition as a guarantee of the national recovery and Al Capone as a symbol of prosperity… All that led the Americans to the Great Depression at the beginning of the 1930s and large reminds Russian Perestroika, which started 50 years later.
