This unique book was published owing to the successful collaboration between the Estonian professor Raimo Pullat and the Latvian Academic Library and contains 287 drawings with commentaries which portray Estonia of the XVIIIth century, with the Estonian most significant settlements and cities, seals, maps, city maps, fortifications, manor estates, the traditions and customs of the people. As Johann Christoph Brotze's works were not publicly known in Estonia, the Latvian Academic Library presented an exhibition on the Collection of Drawings and Descriptions of Livonia by Johann Christoph Brotze in Tallinn, Tartu and Kuresaare before the release of the Estonian edition of Estonica.
