Translated from Finnish. The Finnish linguist Hannu Remes has been continuously working on the Finnish-Estonian language and culture bridge for decades. He has studied the similarities and differences between the Finnish and Estonian languages and their background, the history of the development of the relations between the two countries' linguistic and cultural life, compiled a grammar of the Estonian language for Finns, taught at universities, actively participated in cultural and in scientific communication, spreading knowledge about the language and culture of the neighbors in both countries. He is an honorary member of the Mother Language Society and the Johannes Aaviku Society, a knight of the Order of the Cross of St. Mary IV.
