The Czechoslovakian (Hussite) Church was the second largest Czech church for most of the 20th century and remains one of the most important religious organizations. In many ways it is unique. Its formation a century ago marked the greatest ecclesial schism within a single national community since the Reformation, and the church has undergone and continues to undergo a complex and thought-provoking search for theological and spiritual identity. The Encyclopedia of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church presents not only general but also regional aspects of this search. It contains basic information about the origins and development of all individual religious communities and other organizational units of the Church, as well as summary chapters on its history, theology and liturgy, the development of sacred architecture, and changes in the membership base.
