The personality of Emerita Bukele can be assessed from different points of view today. Some will consider her a Communist Party functionary with the idea that those people who have been in the ranks of the Communist Party are unreliable and, with the beginning of a period of change in the late eighties of the last century, threw their coats in the direction of independence supporters. Others will consider her an active Bauska district activist in the ranks of LTF members and a member of the first democratically elected parliament – the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia – who cast her vote for Latvia’s independence in the historic votes of May 4, 1990 and August 21, 1991. It is undeniable that Emerita Bukele was a personality of that era. The reader of the book will have the opportunity to get to know Emerita Bukele both as a politician and public figure, as well as as a person and personality, by reading Emerita Bukele's diary notes from her period as a member of parliament, interviews and publications in the press over the years, as well as the memoirs of Emerita Bukele, her contemporaries and family.
