The stories from the Elephant volume, first published in 1957, present all the features of Slawomir Mrozek's writing. Critics considered them to be the most characteristic of his work, grotesquely depicted situations in which the confused protagonist becomes entangled, a disgrace of progressiveness and alleged scientificity, the absurdity of the actions of clerical authorities. It should also be emphasized the phenomenal use of language by e.g. use and parody of various styles and conventions.
