The book publishes interviews, documents, photographs, memorable relics used in the documentary film by Igor Gonopolsky based on the script by Leonid Gurevich "Eisenstein in Alma-Ata 1941-1944", which at the time became a pioneering story about the life and work of the film director during the evacuation in Alma-Ata from a purely historical and film studies perspective. Fragments of published memoirs, studies, documents from the archives of Kazakhstan, articles from the republican periodicals, as well as drawings of clothes, headdresses and fabrics of ancient Russian art from a collection of materials by the artist and art critic V.V. Voinov, stored in the fund of the rare books and manuscripts department of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan help to reconstruct the events.
