The novel is written by the famous writer, nominee of numerous literary prizes, winner of the Small Booker as the editor-in-chief of the "Vestnik Novoi Literatury" ("Journal of Modern Literature") , awarded in 2010 with the Franc-Tireur Silver Bullet for the corpus of his works. From the preface of Michael Berg: "I wrote this novel in 1986, determined to portray an impossible situation of "the overthrow of the Soviet regime” and its replacement by what "almost immediately proved to be even worse."
