In his new book, Bulgarian historian and archeologist Nikolai Ovcharov purports to present the truth about Count Dracula. He argues that the historical Vlad the Impaler was neither a Transylvanian count nor a vampire, although this is exactly what he is in the minds of millions of people around the world. Ovcharov's absorbing narrative introduces us to a statesman, visionary and reformer, a brave and able military leader who fought untiringly against the Ottoman Turkish expansion.
