The story is written by Grigory Shakulov according to the stories of Alexander Gilep - a direct participant in military events - and according to the records in the hiking journal of Detachment No. 205. The story covers the heroic days of the defense of the Polotsk land at the very beginning of the war - in July 1941. The fighting took place on the so-called “Stalin Line” of the Polotsk fortified area. Most of the described events take place in the Vitebsk and Smolensk regions.
