Dmytro Dontsov (1883-1973) was a prominent Ukrainian thinker, public and political figure, philosopher, publicist, and literary critic. He went down in history as the creator of the ideology of Ukrainian nationalism. Hetman of Ukraine Pavlo Skoropadsky, Chief Ataman of the UPR troops Simon Petliura, the first Chairman of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists Yevhen Konovalets, and the Chairman of the OUN-B Leadership Stepan Bandera relied on it in their state-building activities. Lenin pointed to the danger of Dontsov's nationalist activity. To which Dontsov responded with a devastating critique of the Soviet state's policy on the national question. As a literary critic, Dontsov united young poets and writers of the Ukrainian emigration, subjecting their work to deep literary analysis, publishing them, and "opened" a new page in the history of Ukrainian literature of the twentieth century. A fighter for an independent Ukrainian state, Dontsov still has not found an adequate assessment in the society of independent Ukraine.
