In January 1942, the Kohns boarded a transport at the Pilsen railway station and never returned. Other tenants moved into their apartment, their belongings gradually disappeared. Everything disappeared, except for the diary that twelve-year-old Verka Kohnova hid with her mother's friend. What family secret brought the writer Jana Poncarova to him years later? The unique publication was created in collaboration with historian Jiri Sankot and reveals the moving story of a Jewish girl whose life was violently ended by the Second World War. Verka Kohnova's authentic diary entries are supplemented by a narrative about her life in pre-war Pilsen, based on archival materials that have been collected about her family and friends. The atmosphere of the late 1930s and the beginning of the Second World War is illustrated by period photographs and newspaper articles.
